About 1769-SM2
The 1769-SM2 is a Compact I/O module. This module is compatible for use with CompactLogix and MicroLogix 1500 controllers. It supports Drive Serial Interface (DSI) and MODBUS communication protocol, enabling this module as communication module for interfacing with PowerFlex 4-class drive and PowerFlex 7 class drive with 20-HIM-H-RS485-HVAC communication adapter.

The 1769-SM2 is a single module may be configured to operate at Single drive and Multi-drive mode. It can be mounted as a local I/O expansion module for MicroLogix 1500 controller as well as remote I/O module for CompactLogix controllers. With DSI operation, this module can operate at transmission speed of 19200 bps. With MODBUS RTU communication, it supports transmission rates of 300, 600, 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600, 19200, or 38400 bps.

The 1769-SM2 has a backplane current draw of 350 mA @ 5Vdc and 0 mA @ 24Vdc supplied by the Compact I/O Power Supply. It has a power supply distance rating 4 which means that the module cannot be installed 4 modules away from the Compact I/O power supply.

When used with MicroLogix 1500, firmware flashing can be implemented using the DriveExplorer, ControlFLASH or HyperTerminal via a 1203-USB or 22-SCM-232 converter for Single Drive mode. When flashing a 1769-SM2 at multi-drive mode, it must be changed first to Single drive operation before firmware flash can be implemented. With CompactLogix controller, flash activity may be implemented using DriveExplorer, ControlFLASH or HyperTerminal via a 1203-USB or 22-SCM-232 converter as well or ControlFLASH via the CompactLogix controller backplane for Single drive operation. For Multi-drive operation, only ControlFLASH via the CompactLogix controller backplane can be used.

It consumes module data at a rate of 350 mA at 5V DC and 0 mA at 24V DC supplied by the Compact I/O Power Supply. This module can be used with a MicroLogix 1500, CompactLogix, or a remote 1769-based adapter such as the 1769-ADN. This module uses an expansion I/O on MicroLogix 1500 and CompactLogix controllers or with a remote 1769-based adapter. The 1769-SM2 receives the required power from the Compact I/O backplane.

The 1769-SM2 cannot be installed in any location that has volatile or corrosive gas, vapors, or dust in the surrounding atmosphere. This type of compact I/O-to-DSI module operates at a temperature of -10-50°C or 14-122°F. This 1769-SM2 Module cannot be more than 4 modules away from the power supply. The maximum cable distance between this module and the connected PowerFlex 4-Class drives is 10 m or 32.8 ft. The maximum cable distance between the 1769-SM2 and a 2-conductor twisted-pair network wiring system is 1219 m/4000 ft. The 1769-SM2 module utilizes RSLogix5000 Software. Moreover, it can be used as an expansion I/O on MicroLogix 1500 and CompactLogix controllers or on any other controller that has a remote 1769-based adapter. The 1769-SM2 has 3 compact I/O connection channels for PowerFlex 4-Class drives as its key features. This module measures 4.65 in x 3.43 in x 3.43 in dimensions and weighs 5 oz. Only one 1769-SM2 is needed for up to five PowerFlex 4-Class drives per channel (15 total).
