Description

Installed in an FP2 PLC system, the AFP2441 handles pulse inputs from high-speed devices such as encoders and sensors. Four separate counting channels are available, with a maximum input frequency of 200 kHz. The module records counts within a 32-bit signed range, covering values from -2,147,483,648 to +2,147,483,647 for precise measurement and control tasks.The unit provides three selectable input modes—phase difference (quadrature), individual input, and direction input—allowing it to interface with incremental encoders and various pulse-generating devices. The AFP2441 operates with 24 VDC optically isolated inputs, features configurable input response times, 8 comparison outputs, interrupt functions, and selectable multiplication factors of 1×, 2×, and 4× for enhanced counting resolution. Its high-speed processing capability makes it suitable for applications requiring precise pulse counting, speed measurement, positioning, and encoder feedback in industrial automation systems. As part of the FP2 platform, the AFP2441 has been discontinued by Panasonic and is recommended to be replaced with solutions based on the FP7 series where appropriate.
