It acts as a non-contacting sensor that utilizes eddy current principles to measure shaft vibration, position, and speed in severe high-heat heavy industrial environments. The system provides an output voltage that is directly proportional to the distance between the probe tip and the observed conductive surface and can measure both static (position) and dynamic (vibration) values. The system’s primary applications are vibration and position measurements on fluid-film bearing machines, as well as Keyphasor reference and speed measurements.

Q:What target material is this probe calibrated to out of the factory?

A:By default, Bently Nevada proximity systems are factory-calibrated to AISI 4140 steel. If your shaft is made of another material , the scale factor will shift, and you must re-calibrate the system or adjust your monitor configuration.
Q:Can I connect this probe directly to a 3500 rack or monitor?
A:No, proximity probes cannot plug directly into rack monitors. The probe requires a matching 3300 XL Proximitor Sensor to condition the eddy current RF signal into a usable voltage output. Because this probe has a 5.0-metre total length, it must be paired with a 5.0-metre Proximitor Sensor without an extension cable, or a 9.0-metre Proximitor Sensor coupled with a 4.0-metre extension cable to total the required system length.

Q:What is the typical gap voltage for this system?
A:When properly installed and gapped within its linear range, the normal gap voltage should sit around -9 VDC to -11 VDC.
