Product Description:
The 190501-08-99-04 Velomitor CT Velocity Transducer is a low-frequency version of our standard Velomitor Piezo-velocity Sensor. Its design specifically measures casing vibration velocity on cooling tower and air-cooled heat-exchanger fan assemblies that operate at or above 90 rpm (100 to 300 rpm typical). The Velomitor CT Transducer can measure vibration amplitudes at these frequencies as well as the vibration frequencies generated by the fan motor and speed reducer.
Application:
Air-Cooled Heat Exchangers: Used extensively in oil and gas refineries to measure casing vibration velocity on large, slow-moving aerial cooler fan assemblies
Petrochemical and Refining: Ideally suited for downstream petrochemical processing plants because the -04 option provides critical explosion-proof/intrinsically safe certifications needed around hydrocarbon processing zones.
Power Generation: Applied on large induced-draft and forced-draft fans, as well as circulating water pump systems that require robust low-frequency monitoring.
Water and Wastewater Treatment: Used on slow-turning aerators, mixers, and large intake pumps where early detection of mechanical unbalance or misalignment prevents catastrophic failure.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q:Why should I use the Velomitor CT instead of a standard 330500 Velomitor?
A:Standard Bently Nevada Velomitors track frequencies starting around 4.5 Hz. The Velomitor CT alters the frequency profile downward (starting at 1.5Hz to 3.0Hz) to capture the low-speed rotations of structural cooling tower fans, preventing premature mechanical or structural damage from missing low-frequency shifts.
Q:Which machinery protection systems interface with this sensor?
A:It fully integrates with the Bently Nevada 3500 Machinery Protection System via the 3500/42M Proximitor Seismic Monitor and the compact 2300 Series Vibration Monitors. If upgrading to the newer Orbit 60 line, Bently Nevada recommends using a PAV module rather than a PVT module to accommodate the specific power constraints of the 190501.
Q:What is the recommended mounting torque?
A:The sensor should be torqued precisely to 4.5 N-m ± 0.6 N-m (40 in-lbf ± 5 in-lbf) during installation. Improper mounting shifts the transducer's internal physical response and generates false vibration readings.
