The PR6423 003-0D1 is aradioactive radiation resistantnon-contact eddy currenttransducer. The constructionand design allows this sensor tobe used in nuclear radiation zone1 applications on turbomachinery,reactor coolant pumps and othermotors, pumps, fans or blowers.The purpose of a displacementprobe is to measure position orshaft movement without contactingthe measured surface – the rotor.In the case of sleeve bearingmachines, the shaft is separatedfrom the bearing material by athin film of oil. The oil acts asa dampener and therefore thevibration and position of theshaft are not transmitted through the bearing to the bearing case.The use of case vibration sensorsis discouraged for monitoringsleeve bearing machines sincethe vibration produced byshaft motion or position is greatlyattenuated through the bearingoil film. The ideal method ofmonitoring shaft position andmotion is by mounting a noncontact eddy sensor throughthe bearing, or inside the bearing,measuring the shaft motion andposition directly.The PR 6423 is commonly usedto measure vibration of machineshafts, eccentricity, thrust (axialdisplacement), differentialexpansion, valve position,and air gaps.
